Parents, Can We Talk About Back-to-School Season?
Every August, the same thing happens.
The calendar fills up overnight.
School supply lists.
Open houses.
Permission slips.
Sports registrations.
Doctor's appointments.
Lunches.
Backpacks.
New shoes.
And somehow, you're expected to remember all of it while keeping everyone emotionally regulated.
It's a lot.
The Mental Load Is Real
Sometimes planning for the school year feels like you're managing a small company.
Who's picking up?
Who's dropping off?
Did anyone sign the field trip form?
Does the water bottle still have someone's name on it?
And why does every email from school arrive at exactly the same time?
If you're already feeling overwhelmed before the first bell rings, you're not failing.
You're carrying a lot.
Looking Forward to School Doesn't Make You a Bad Parent
Listen...
If part of you is excited for your kids to go back to school, you're allowed to admit that.
Missing your kids and looking forward to having a little structure again can both be true.
Loving your children and needing a break can both be true.
Those things don't cancel each other out.
They make you human.
Your Kids Don’t Need Perfect
It's easy to believe they'll remember whether the lunch was homemade or whether you forgot picture day.
They probably won't.
What they'll remember is how home felt.
Did they feel safe?
Did they feel loved?
Did they know they could tell you when something was hard?
Those things last much longer than a perfectly packed backpack.
Give Yourself Some Grace Too
As you're helping everyone else adjust this school year, don't forget to check in with yourself.
How are you sleeping?
What are you carrying?
What kind of support do you need?
You deserve care too.
Because the best gift you can give your family isn't perfection.
It's a version of you that knows it's okay to ask for help.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, burned out, or simply carrying more than you can hold on your own, we're here to help.
